Till when should I take my meds
Hello I'm Jerome from the Philippines and I just want to know if I still have my meds even it's already been 4 or 5 years already since I went to see my psychiatrist or psychologist with my mother because of financial problems, I was diagnosed with major depression, I just want to know if I should stop taking my meds already because I'm not seeing my doctor anymore and or if I does should I need to take my mother with me when my doctor talks to me, or should it be confidential.

Hello  Jerome, I will try to answer your question in a step wise manner. 1. Whether or not you need to continue medication depends on multiple factors like a. Number of Depressive episodes. b. Any history of manic/hypomanic/mixed episode. c. Duration and time since recovery of the episode. d. Degree of improvement e. Severity and especially any history of suicidal attempt f. Any residual symptoms g. Family and social support h. History of substance abuse i. Any other relevant information 2. Whether or not you need to take your mother with you. This is completely your choice, it would generally be preferred but if you want to keep it confidential you can go alone or take whosoever you wish to. Hence it is important to please visit a psychiatrist for assessment of all these factors. Hope this helps you. Best wishes for your health and future.
