Temporary fillings are generally placed to avoid saliva or any fluid/food contamination to the tooth during inter-appointment phase. It is always better to get a temporary filling placed if your dentist has advised it. If it is really not possible to visit your dentist in the mean time, then please place a cotton over the tooth.
Next Steps
Generally 4-5 days is quite a lot of time. I would personally advise to avoid contamination and visit your dentist if you can.
