Get your Blood uric acid test done.
Ice pack over the swelling.
Anti inflammatory medicine that you are not allergic to is usually advised in such cases for the pain till proper diagnosis is made.
Report any family history of gout or other arthritis if present.

There is swelling of great toe joint.
It could be due to local pressure or Gout or even Diabetes.
Don't apply anything on the ball of toe.
Elevate the leg over a pillow.
