Sudden pain in the upper right chest
Hi, Approximately two days ago, I began experiencing severe acid reflux accompanied by persistent hiccups. Despite drinking plenty of water, I found little to no relief. Since then, I have developed a continuous pain in the upper right side of my chest that occurs whenever I eat or drink, even with a single sip of water. The pain is sharp and intense, arising immediately upon swallowing, and it often radiates toward my back. Interestingly, the discomfort seems to improve when I am lying down or asleep. Given these symptoms, I would like to understand what could be causing this condition.

The symptoms described are concerning for an esophageal condition rather than simple acidity. Pain occurring immediately on swallowing food or even water, especially when radiating to the back, may indicate severe esophagitis, esophageal ulceration, or esophageal spasm. I would recommend prompt consultation with a doctor and consideration of an upper GI endoscopy for further evaluation. If there is difficulty swallowing, inability to tolerate liquids, vomiting blood, or severe chest pain, urgent medical assessment is advised.
