Sudden cough in the night can't breathe
Hi my son has woken up suddenly in the night coughing. Feeling like he can't breathe because of a built of saliva in his throat. I've had the same thing happen to myself could it be acid reflux. It was very scary being unable to breathe.

It is unlikely to be acid reflux in young individuals and probably it is because of acute laryngeal spasm which may be a one time event. If symptoms reccur then he may need to be examined by a specialist
Next Steps
Consult nearby ENT specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate treatment if required
