Struggling in life
I have been out of work for long and I am having trouble getting back in. It's primarily because of my lack of confidence, but also because I freeze up in interviews and can't make up stuff that could easily get me an offer letter. I try to learn new skills , but I am easily distracted and things start to feel overwhelming , so I quit things quickly. I'm in debt too. I have no idea what to do with my life. Ending it does come in my mind, but I'm too scared to try that too. Recently I have noticed something. When I watch something funny, I begin to laugh and when I am at the peak of it, my laugh automatically turns to sadness and tears fill up my eyes. I have to stop laughing to prevent myself from crying. When I am at the peak though, I also sometimes feel like I could smash in my head. I don't understand why. What do I do?

It sounds like you're experiencing a complex combination of challenges, including lack of confidence, difficulty in interviews, trouble sustaining focus, feelings of overwhelm, financial strain, and emotional distress. The shifting emotions you described during laughter, where it transitions into sadness and thoughts of self-harm, could indicate underlying mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Based on your description, it's possible that you may be experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety, which can manifest as feelings of hopelessness, difficulty concentrating, and mood fluctuations. It's important to seek professional evaluation and support to address these concerns and develop a plan for managing your mental health effectively.
Next Steps
Seeking support from a mental health professional, such as a therapist or counselor, is crucial in addressing these concerns and developing coping strategies. Therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and emotions, learn effective stress management techniques, and develop a plan to address your challenges and improve your overall well-being. You may reach out to me if you'd like.
Health Tips
In addition to therapy, consider reaching out to career counseling services for guidance in navigating your job search and building confidence in interviews. Breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps can help reduce overwhelm, and setting realistic goals can foster a sense of accomplishment. Practice self-compassion and remind yourself that it's okay to ask for help and take things one step at a time.

I feel that most of your issues like the employment problems, difficulty facing interviews, lack of confidence, getting distracted easily etc. have their base in some kind of anxities in your mind. You may also have difficulty in giving required focus / attention / time to your regular activities and important life events. All these may be giving you repetitive (and probably never ending) anxities without you specifically realising it. Things may improve for you if the deep-rooted anxiety is managed, maybe with some medication for some time. Once you start feeling better with that, you may have to consult a psychologist to work out strategies to manage the anxiety-provoking life situations so that you do not return to the anxities easily. With this, I would suggest you to consult a psychiatrist first, followed by a psychologist. You will have to maintain consistency in the meetings / medication with both of them. While dealing with both, you will have to overcome the urge to avoid going to them and continuing with medications and counselling sessions. With no intention whatsoever to fix a label onto your current state of mind and to suggest that you may be having such a disorder, I would like you to read / learn about a condition called Adult ADD, maybe from the internet. I am suggesting this because some of the issues you have raised while describing your condition can be identified with people with Adult ADD. That awareness will help you in developing strategies to handle your problems by yourself in a more meaningful way. And now about your thoughts about 'ending life'. Please remember, life is unconditionally beautiful even though it may occasionally offer some difficult situations. So, next time you start feeling negative about life, please remember, every situation will pass and the beauty of life will prevail. Please mention your occasional negativity about life to your psychiatrist as well as to the psychologist.
