Your symptoms sound like what we call ‘Reflux Oesophagitis’.
This is where the normal acid in your stomach kicks back up into your food pipe (Oesophagus). When the acid kicks back up it causes indigestion and nausea.
The same acid, when you are lying down or sleeping will come up into your throat and some of it goes down into the lungs. When this happens, it causes breathing problems and wheezing.
You need to do the following
1. Take Omeprazole daily 20mg in the morning for at least 4 weeks
2. Avoid any food/s you noticed that makes the symptoms worse
3. Stop smoking and avoid alcohol and if overweight address that
4. Blood test- CBP, Liver function tests, Calcium, TSH, HbA1C and lipid profile
5. Ultrasound abdomen - to check for alternative explanations like Gallstones
6. ECG and CXR ( as you are taking atenolol and to check for no other reason for your breathing problems)
7. If you are experiencing wheezing, then have your atenolol switched to Bisoprolol, which should help.
8. If your symptoms are better but not gone away after 4 weeks of Omeprazole, get a Gastroscopy done.
All the best.
