As your mother is 65 years old surgery is not advisable. Moreover it is not 100% gurenteed that the surgery will solve the problem. Bulging intervertebral discs are a very common occurrence. They usually remain asymptomatic; however, they can cause discomfort and disability in various parts of the body if the disc compresses an adjacent nerve root. With aging, the outer fibrous portion of intervertebral discs is weakened. Pressure from the central core of the disc can then stretch to the outer rim, causing the disc to bulge. Many people have bulging discs without realizing it. As long as the bulging area does not press upon surrounding neural tissues, no symptoms occur.
Consult a good homeopath. Homeopathy will give you a permanent solution for spine related health issues. It is always preferable to avoid suregeries in such cases.
You can also along with homeopathy go for physiotherapy which will have the patient recover faster.
is your legs are numbing when you stand up.
is that pain is severe ,give rest as per your age disc bulges are co0mmon if you are overweight it will be the main reason for it.
see any chiropractor for intial spine corrections if you dont have weakness and cramps while walking without heaviness, than it can be treated Non surgically.
Now a days Latest Procedures Called PELD is having good success rate with minimal invasive surgery recovery is fast.
i advice to take conservative treatments first give 3 weeks of rest pain will come down once the pain is reduced start spinal strenghtening exercises.
Surgery priority will be the last if all conservative measures fails.
