causes of painful ulcers are human herpesvirus 1 and
human herpesvirus 2 infections, H ducreyi. infection which causes chancroid; drug-induced ulcer and trauma.
Painless ulcers are usually caused by
T pallidum infection(syphilis), granuloma inguinale, and lymphogranuloma
venereum.
