The description suggests Herpes Zoster which  affects one side of the body, either chest, back, face or any part of the body. Don't get confused with your half knowledge. What doctor might have meant is herpes zoster  caused by varicella zoster virus which affects nerves. Where as Herpes labialis also called fever blister occurs on lips which is caused by Herpes simplex virus. Coming to your problem ? herpes zoster, should be treated within 72 hours of the symptoms. Need to be started on antiviral drugs otherwise you may land up in post herpetic neuralgia. So meet Dermatologist(allopathy) as soon as possible and confirm the diagnosis and get treated.
