Hi Doctor,
My daughter 20 months(9 kg) and she is active active but she has been suffering from severe/chronic constipation for the past 2 months. We have been giving her Duphalac for the last 3–4 days, but there has been no noticeable improvement yet.
We are also trying dietary changes:
* Giving fibre-rich fruits like papaya and watermelon
* Ensuring she drinks around 500 ml of water(including juice)daily
Despite this, she is still having difficulty passing stools.
Could you please advise:
* What could be causing this prolonged constipation?
* Whether the current treatment is sufficient or needs adjustment?
* Any dietary or lifestyle changes we should follow?
* Whether any tests or specialist consultation are needed?
Thank you.

Most constipation cases at this age are functional constipation related to stool withholding, diet, low fluid intake, or painful hard stools. Duphalac may take a few days and sometimes dose adjustment or longer duration treatment is needed under pediatric guidance. Continue fibre-rich diet, adequate water, fruits like papaya/pear/prunes, and regular toilet sitting habit after meals. Excess milk/junk food may worsen constipation in some children. Pediatric evaluation is advised if there is poor weight gain, vomiting, abdominal distension, blood in stools, severe pain, or if symptoms persist despite treatment, as examination and occasionally further tests may be required.
Don't worry this is common in kids
So try to put fibre Rich diet like banana , apples , carrot, keera etc
Give more liquids so that constipation will be relieved
