What is sepsis and how is it caused ? How do we know whether someone has sepsis or not and is it life threatening?

Hello..Well sepsis can turn life threatening and cannot be ignored at all..Generally what happens is there would be a foci of infection for which the body would react and all the chemical mediators will be released into blood and thus it may cause septic shock or multiple organ failure...Thank you
