I am 39. I have done my semen analysis where reports are as follows -
Total Progressive Motility is 37% (Rapid-4, slow-33). Also, 17% is non progressive and 46% is non motile
Ph is 8. Rest all other parameters are within range.
Reports are attached herewith.
Please check.
Ultrasound of testicles are okay and have no issues.
No smoking and occasionally drinking.
Kindly suggest, if this is okay, or medications are required for trying for a baby

Your semen parameters are largely reassuring, especially for natural conception:
• Sperm count (61.5 million/ml) → This is good (normal >15 million/ml).
• Total progressive motility (37%) → This is borderline-normal (lower limit ≈32%). So, acceptable but could be improved.
• Morphology (3.1% normal forms) → Slightly below ideal (reference ≥4%), but many men with similar values still conceive naturally.
• pH = 8 → Slightly alkaline but still within acceptable range (7.2–8.0).
• Functional sperm (2.9) → Mildly low, indicating fewer sperm are optimally capable of fertilization.
Overall
This is not a severe abnormal report. It suggests mild male factor subfertility, not infertility. Natural conception is definitely possible, but it may take a bit longer.

Health Tips
Improving sperm quality is very responsive to lifestyle:
• Maintain regular exercise, but avoid overheating (tight underwear, hot baths, laptop on lap).
• Keep weight in normal range—even mild obesity affects sperm motility.
• Limit alcohol to very occasional; avoid binge drinking.
• Ensure 7–8 hours of sleep—hormonal balance affects sperm production.
• Diet should include:
• Nuts (especially walnuts, almonds)
• Fresh fruits (berries, citrus)
• Green vegetables
• Healthy fats (ghee in moderation, olive oil)
• Reduce stress—chronic stress affects testosterone and sperm quality.
Thank you

Dear Practo User,
Hello,
I have carefully reviewed the semen analysis details shared by you.
From the values mentioned, your semen parameters are largely reassuring overall.
In fact, many of the important fertility-related values appear to be within acceptable range, including:
• Semen volume – 2.1 ml
• Sperm concentration – 29.3 million/ml
• Total sperm count – 61.5 million/ejaculate
• Total motility – 54%
• Progressive motility – 37%
• Normal morphology – 5%
As per commonly used WHO reference ranges, progressive motility around 30% or more, total motility around 42% or more, concentration around 16 million/mL or more, and morphology around 4% or more are generally considered within the fertile reference range. Also, semen analysis alone does not confirm or rule out fertility by itself.
What this means in simple words:
Your report does not look alarming and it does not suggest a major male factor issue based on the numbers you have shared.
