I've made a new friend recently and found out he is schizophrenic. We've become quite close very quickly but i'm concerned. He says the voices he hears try to make him hurt others. Should i be concerned for my safety? I don't want to abandon him but something in my gut is telling me to run. He is taking medication but is having an episode because he misplaced it

Hallucination is a symptom of schizophrenia. Since he is on medications for the same, try to maintain some distance from him. You can be friends with him but maintain distance so that he is not overly dependent on you but at the same time you can support him whenever needed.
