Right needle for injection
Recently I have received injection for fever. It was given in by buttock muscle. Doctor provided the injection prescription and I bought it from nearby medical shop to that clinic. They gave medicine along with one set of disposable syringe. But while preparing the injection, the nurse just put the needle away which was given along with the disposable syringe. Then used another needle to admin the injection. I questioned her why she changed the common needle, she told me that needle was not suitable for your hip size madam and gave me the injection. It was sharp pain that time and sting. After that I gave fine massage over that spot. It happened last week and still I have pain in the injection spot. My question here is that nurse changed the needle is correct method? Is it needle size is depends on patient to patient? Could you please clarify on this.. Thanks

HELLO, NO, NOT LIKE THAT. IF INJECTION IS WATERY THIN BORE INJECTION NEED IE NO 24. IF INJECTION IS OILY THAN THE INJECTION NEEDLE IS THIK BORE IE, NO 23  BUT INSERTION IS NOT SO PAINFUL. IT DEPENDS ON WHAT IS TECNIC, SHOULD BE INSERTED STRAIGHT, NOT WITH SHEARING MOVEMENT, OTHERWISE IT IS PAINFUL. O.K BYE.

Hello there. I can understand your concern. Yes it does depend on many such factors. I don't think she did anything wrong. For many drugs also we cannot use the supplied needle, a wide bore needle would be required for some. There is nothing wrong in what she did. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain. Bangalore.
