Recurring cold sores

Hi there, wanted to know what measures I should take to prevent cold sores on and around my lips. Why is it that some people rarely get it, and others get it often? I as you could have guessed, get them often. Recently it has been worse than before. In the space of 2 weeks I have gotten one on three occasions beneath my lower lip.
