Random High BP

I am 95 KG with 5 Feet 5 Inches height. My BP is at slidely higher side for last 6 years but last year it went upto 150/105 so doctor recommended Omlesartan 40 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg combination. After taking medicine, BP comes to normal and sometime goes below normal. After taking this medicines, my BP became normal and I stopped taking medicines. I kept on checking BP on regular intervals and it was almost normal. Last week, my BP shooted to 160/110 and I had to take medicine again and then BP remained normal for one week. I did not take medicine on daily basis. Can I take medicines on ad-hoc basis, only when it is high? Or shall I start taking medicine on regular basis. I want to avoid medicines, if I can. Just FYI, I regularly play sports to completely sweat out myself once in a day. I avoid salt and oily foods. No smoking and no family history. ECG, Echo, TMT Normal, Cholestrol on little higher side.

Hello there. I can understand your concern. You need first lose weight. Obesity is a big factor in cotrolling your blood pressure and also a big risk factor for heart diseases. And you cannot take blood pressure medicines as you please. The medicines need to be taken on a daily basis as prescribed by your doctor. Skipping medicines once in a while or stopping it will not do. Kindly consult a general physician in person for further evaluation and management. Best regards. Dr. Anil kumar jain.

Your major concern is your overweight condition. High and fluctuating B.P is a major symptom which may be seen due to obesity or thyroid disorder or hormonal disturbances or cardiac cause. So you first need to reduce your weight upto the minimum B.M.I level. Your BMI currently is 34.89. which needs to be reduced to 23.5 atleast. You should also take care of stress and anxiety. Consult any endocrinologist and dietician simultaneously to reduce weight. Anti hypertensive medication is to be taken regularly untill declared completely fit by your doctor.

Hi its not good as you doing now BP is Not the parameter which can be controlled as you Like bcoz it raises with your stress ,emotions, diet, lifestyle and your physical structure. To stop your speed limit of your Heart rate we put speed breakers called Anti hypertensives ,so if you satrt a BP tablet once it should be taken on regular basis otherwise your Heart Rhythm varies . so if we remove speedbreakers on regular route similarly your haert muscle damages ends with organ failure. so dont experiment continue the drug as adviced on regular basis if your Bp is falling down consult doctor he will reduce the dose as per your requirement.
Next Steps
regular physical activity and Intime sleep reduces your BP.
