If you have been bitten for the first time then you should take the doses as 0,3,7,14 days. 0 is the first dose and 3 is three days from first dose and so on. You will also have to take one dose of rabies immune globulin on the same day as first dose . If you have been through the above and taking the dose after being bitten again then you need to take only two doses one right away and one on day 3 from first dose. In this case hi don’t need the rabies immune globulin . In case you are a vet or your profession involves dealing with animals (specifically rabid ones) or rabies virus then you need a preexposure dose or preventive vaccine which is given as 0 ,7,21 or 0,7,28. That is 0 being first dose , then 7 days from first dose and finally 21/28 days from dose 1. The rabies vaccine is supposed to be taken within 3 days(max) of being exposed. Infact , it is advised to be taken on the same day. Incase of exposure wash the wound with clean water and soap immediately to reduce chance of infection and head for the vaccine asap(within 3 days)
