Rabies spreads mainly through direct bite or saliva entering a fresh wound through direct contact. It does not spread through saliva droplets in air.

Rabies does NOT spread through saliva traveling in air from a barking dog.
For rabies transmission to occur, infected saliva must directly enter:
• A fresh open wound
• A deep scratch
• Mucous membranes (eyes, mouth)
Airborne droplets from barking do not carry enough virus to cause infection, especially outdoors. Rabies virus is fragile — it:
• Dies quickly when exposed to air
• Does not survive well outside the body
• Does not spread like respiratory viruses
If there was no direct licking, bite, or scratch, the risk is essentially negligible to zero.

If Your wound is fresh and dog’s rabies vaccination status is unknown ,Then it is considered Category III exposure and PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis) is recommended. Go for vaccination why take risk.
