Why is HPV test asked to be done if Pap smear can detect HPV and pre cancerous cell changes? Why is HPV test suggested every 3-5 years even if someone has come negative in the past?

Paps test detect the cellular changes in cervix whereas HPV test detect virus which causes benign cervical lesions and cervical cancer
