High prolactin level or hyperprolactinemia is a type of hormonal imbalance which can cause irregular periods , Blurred vision ,headache etc..
if you have symptoms like these it is better to also get done an MRI brain to rule out any prolactinoma..which are beNign tumors..
after that medications can be started for 6 weeks time.
There are many causes of elevated Prolactin levels ..
It’s important to know whether you have any symptoms like amenorrhea, discharge from breast & headache or visual symptoms..
Medications , thyroid dysfunction, physiological causes , PCOS & pituitary tumours like micro or macroadenoma can cause elevated PRL .,
Whenever PRL is more than 100 it’s important we get a contrast MRI of pituitary gland done to rule out micro or macroadenoma ..
Drug treatment with cabergoline is quite useful..
