Folic acid has been found beneficial for the fetus and the mother esp if taken as soon as the pregnancy is diagnosed and in some cases even before pregnancy. It also helps to reduce incidence of certain conditions in later pregnancy.
However no any side-effects have been found of folic acid. It's ok if u hv started it later but the benefits are high if started earlier. It can be continued throughout pregnancy.. continue the folic acid and do go for regular follow-up with ur obstetrician
