Pregnancy scan
My wife is 5weeks 4 days pregnant. Today we have done early pregnancy scan as doctor advised to do so. In scan baby's hearbeat was not be able to record by the doctor but some flicker they noted in scan report. is it normal not to get hearbeat in between 5-6 weeks of pregnancy? My second question is is it good to do frequent scan of baby during pregnancy? Please suggest. Many Thanks!!

Yes its absolutely safe to get ultrasound in pregnancy.. Also usually heart beat comes at 5 weeks but it is clearly visible only by transvaginal scan. At transabdominal scan cardiac activity s recordable between 6 to 7 weeks. Repeat an ultrasound at around 10 to 15 days from now..the heart beat should be somewhere in between 120 to 160 beats /min In the meanwhile start taking folic acid tablet 5mg Consult direct for further management
