You are 22 years and havent divulged any thing about being married or NOT, so I assume you are NOT married, and are asking for contraception advice.
In unmarried state, where sex is occasional, infrequent and sometimes not in accordance with the "safe period" then many youngsters are known to either throw caution to the wind and indulge in "unprotected sex act" and THEN worry about pregnancy.
BUT before that we have to understand that Emergency or other contraceptive pills can protect against pregnancy, BUT NOT against "Sexually Transmitted Diseases"!!!!!
Anstinence is the ONLY thing that can protect against pregnancy and STD. But if one feels like having sex, then condoms will provide a better protection against STD as compared to PILLS
Pills are of many types, the regular pills come in packs of 24, 28 or 21 tablets which when taken under as prescribed, have the greatest efficacy in preventing pregnancy. These are regular Oral Contraceptive Pills ( OCPills )
O C Pills are known to cause "inhibition" of ovulation ( egg release ) so it protects against pregnancy in more sure shot way.
There are Emergency Contraception Pill ( EC Pill ) which have to be taken withing 72 hours of unprotected sex.
These DONT inhibit ovulation and they just make the atmosphere of the uterus uninhabitable for the pregnancy if it has started.
So for couples who have regular sex, more than once a month, or even once a month, it is better to be on Regular OCPills
There is one caveat by which youngsters must act. Those who ask for sex, surely must have also slept with others in the past and they carry the past infections to the present partner, so taking OC or EC pill may protect from pregnancy but cant protect from STD.
DUAL protection by using condoms at EACH sex act, and OCpills will be the best combination for the youth
