Platelet count is high
She is 7.5 months pregnant and taking ecosprin 75mg from the day one of the pregnancy. Platelet was 375000 on that time. Now it's 480000. Suggest what we should do? Should we increase the dose or go for the injection weekly or we can continue with the same dose? How much range requires high dose or immediate attention? Please advise.

Dear Ma'am, At 7.5 months a platelet concentration that you have mentioned is okay as pregnancy is a state of hemoconcentration. Ecospirin acts through preventing platelet aggregation and has minimal effect on absolute platelet counts. You have been prescribed as low dose aspirin based on high risk features associated with this or previous pregnancy, tht has to monitored by fetal well being and biophysical profiles, biometrics for the baby and liquor as well as development of maternal hypertension. Low platelets is a cause of worry. If she develops symptoms of DVT, Stroke or visual disturbances urgent review is needed. You may also be asked to stop Ecospirin prior to an elective c section,  or changed to injectable low-molecular weight heparin near to delivery, if high risk of thrombosis complications. I would suggest no further change in medication til the above complications develop. Please review after consultation with treating Obstetrician. Regards, Aditi
