Hi, I'm 3 months pregnant and we have a pet dog (Pug), today while with him I got a scratch from his nails, after sometime I could see a tiny drop of blood coming out from the scratch area, is it harmful to baby, and what precautions should I take ?

Hi Mam... Hope you have cleaned the wound thoroughly with soap and water... Don't do any dressing of the wound... Keep it open... If the dog is vaccinated against rabies regularly and if under your observation for 10 days remains normal then no need to worry... If the dog dies or lost to follow up or any behavior change, then you must be given rabies vaccine immediately to protect yourself from rabies... Rabies can develop from scratches also.. Rabies vaccine must be taken even during pregnancy if required... Once a person develops rabies there is no treatment available and is uniformly fatal... If your dog does not have rabies then nothing will happen to you or your baby...
