In bacterial infections, there is high fever and child looks sick usually. This looks like a viral infection which cause cough and cold usually. This severe cough means she requires nebulization because the medicine reaches chest only through nebulizer or inhaler. Oral syrups do not help in severe cases. Do regular nebulization till she is better as advised by the pediatrician. If this cough is of long duration, it may be allergic and treatment is different.
