It is very common to mistake an adenomyosis for a fibroid and this differentiation is best done by MRI. In fibroids there is a excess growth of fibrous and muscle cells of the uterine wall and this causes lunps to form in the walls of the uterus. While in adenomyosis the lining of the uterus which is usually limited to the innermost layer, goes deeper and invades the muscle wall. This causes severe cramping pain at menses and there could be a localised collection of such blood in walls of the uterus. Have the surgeons removed the fibroid? or did they just do a diagnostic laparoscopy? if they havent removed the fibroids then it is better to do MRI to diagnose it. Laparoscopy just shows the exterior of the uterus and it may not reveal the deep infiltration by the endometrium ( lining of the uterus )
Next Steps
Adenomyosis is usually cured by surgery by at times pregnancy can bring about a reduction in disease in few. So if you have a chance to conceive and get a baby, it would be best option. provided your MRI report is conducive to it.
Health Tips
Get treatment done from reputed gynecologist in your area so as to get the best chances of treatment and then for pregnancy if you desire one in near future
