Opinion on continuing antidepressants
Have been having anti depressants since August when I got diagnosed with panic, anxiety n depression.am much better now.my psychiatrist wants me to reduce the anxiety pills slowly but wants me to continue taking the anti depressants for the upcoming 3months.i take inderal 10mg 4times a day & duvanta 60mg once a day.i do not want to get too dependent on the medicines and also tried to avoid but counseling wasn't working so was forced to start.i have a history of epilepsy and have taken medication for that for almost 10-15yrs leading to side effects.i wanted an opinion on whether taking anti depressants for almost 7-8months will lead to any side effects and whether at all I should continue taking it or can I stop.i also have very high insulin & cortisol so am right now trying to work on reducing my weight and bringing the insulin & cortisol down to normal levels.kindly suggest me whether I should continue as my doctor says or I can stop and if so how do I stop the anti depressants?

It would be advisable  not to discontinue  the medication prescribed  for your panic, anxiety and depression in an abrupt way.Any  adjustment  in the dose of the medication  should be made  after a detailed  evaluation by  a Psychiatrist .
Next Steps
consultation with a Psychiatrist

Antidepressants are usually safe for long periods. They are not very habit forming either. Keep a check on your vitals regularly. The only concern about the prescription you have put up is the pre scheduled increments in dose. Many patients often respond adequately even at lower dose.
Next Steps
If you are not satisfied with your current management you may take a second opinion if you wish so from a psychiatrist
