It's not that clomipramine is best medicine for OCD, as such there is no best medicine for OCD, the thing is SSRI's are preferred medicine over clomipramine considering the side effects of the later. Both clomipramine & SSRI's are equally effective, the difference is the side effects, also the choice of medicine depends on many other conditions like age, gender, other comorbid medical conditions & other drug interactions, so it's all about picking up the right medicine that suits a person.

There is research available. Please read that up.
Also, its not like one treatment fits all. We have to use different medication for different patients. Clomipramine will not be effective in all OCD patients.
