It is cardiotoxic, but only in high doses. It is generally a safe drug when used in therapeutic dosage. But it must be prescribed by a psychiatrist and not taken over the counter.
Hi.. all the tricyclic antidepressants have cardiovascular side effects. The mechanism through which TCAs cause adverse cardiovascular effects is complex. They have significant activity as antagonists of α1-, H1-, H2- and M-receptors and block Na+ and potassium gene channels. Overall care should be taken in prescribing TCAs in patients who have pre-existing cardiovascular issues. However 10 mg is a very low dosage. It may not have much effect.
