My Grandma is a retired teacher, for years now she talks continuously everyday about her past, cursing her husband, son and daughter in law. She is also hyper independent and won't let any of us family members bring her medicine or accompany her to the doctors! She does not eat properly, and even then has loose motions. We tried telling her she has a problem and to consult a psychologist but she will not listen to us. We truly want to help her but are not understanding how or exactly what the problem is.

Hi
Your grandmother has been talking continuously for years and she won’t let family members bring her medicine or accompany her to the doctor. Consult a psychiatrist and explain about your grandmothers condition. A psychiatrist will guide you on whether medication is required. Your grandmother does not eat properly. How long has it been since your grandmother has not been eating well? It seems like your grandmother is going through something or she could be feeling lonely. Consult a psychiatrist for diagnosis and consult a psychologist for counselling sessions. I suggest you consult a psychiatrist first and then consult a psychologist.
I understand you are worried about your grandmother. Don’t stress too much.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist first and then consult a psychologist.

Hi .
In such cases where the individual doesn't have insight into his or her problem then in such cases u need to first consult a Psychiatrist.Any family member who can explain and understand her issue well can consult a Psychiatrist on her behalf.
Rest Psychiatrist will guide you..
Hi.. In cases where the patient is unwilling or not in a mental condition to consult a Psychiatrist, it is best for the family members to take the consultation alone and follow the treatment process as prescribed. You need to consult a Psychiatrist and s/he will guide you well. Her condition might be a product of ageing but there is also a possibility that she is suffering from a mental health condition. In both the cases medications may be required to bring her mind back to a place where psychotherapy/counselling could actually start working.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist first for Diagnosis and Medication.
Consult a Psychologist later for Psychotherapy/Counselling.
Interpersonal Guidance and Counselling is required using a supportive approach.
