My 6 weeks old does not sleep properly
My 6 weeks boy sleeps only 3 hours in a day and he will not sleep straight 8 hours and sleeps at 1 am in the night. He takes very short naps while feeding and he demands feeding continuously. I am really worried as it is always said babies need more sleep and its important for their development. Is it fine if he sleeps overall 10 hours in 24 hours.

Usually babies take time to adjust to the environment but as your saying baby is sleeping only for 10 hours there might be 1.first check after each feeding how many hours baby is sleeping atleast for 1 to 2 hours baby should sleep.if not the major issue will be of feeding so kindly express your milk and see how much milk you are getting so that you will have confidence in your self. 2.babies will feel there stomach full only if the baby get the hindmilk only so try to give breastfeeding one side completely and then other side . 3.try to keep baby with you and make skin to skin contact, they will feel secure and will have better sleep.

If your baby is only sleeping 10 hours in 24 hours, it’s slightly less than the typical range for their age, but some babies may naturally need less sleep. However, it’s important to ensure your baby is not overtired, as this can make it harder for them to sleep well. Look for signs like irritability, frequent crying, or difficulty settling to sleep. If your baby seems content, active, feeding well, and meeting developmental milestones, it may just be their individual sleep pattern. To encourage more sleep, try establishing a consistent sleep routine, ensuring the sleep environment is calm and dark, and offering naps or quiet time at regular intervals. Naps during feeding is common in some babies, as can be soothing and help them fall asleep. However, this pattern can sometimes lead to shorter, fragmented sleep and might also indicate that they’re not fully feeding during each session. To help, try encouraging more complete feeds by keeping your baby awake and engaged during feeding—this could include gently stroking their cheek or switching breasts to maintain interest.
