Muscle loss vs fat loss
Hi Doctors, I am performing cardio exercises (brisk walking) from past 5 months, i have lost around 8 kg of weight. But I can feel that I have lost substantial amount of muscle rather than fat. As I can see that my fat under arms, belly and chest seems saggy. How can I avoid muscle loss and increase fat loss in weight reduction process.

Hi Yes it's possible that you might have lost some muscles along with fat while doing only brisk walking. Do strength training at least 3 times per week. It may be combination of weight lifting, body weight exercises or resistance band exercises. Start with low weight loads and fewer repetition. Gradually increase with heavier weight and more repetition to avoid injury. It will increase muscle mass and help in fat loss. Keep doing your brisk walking. Target all muscle groups in strength training. Give time to recover your muscles. So on alternate days. One day cardio next day weight training. Increase your protein intake. Avoid refined foods, sugary drinks. Have fresh fruits and vegetables along with sprouts and whole foods. Hope doing this will give you desired results.
