Hi, I am Dr. Atul Kumar Nimawat, ENT Specialist.
These symptoms—especially the runny nose, nasal congestion, headache, and burning sensation—are more likely due to acute allergic or viral rhinitis, or possibly early sinusitis. While gastric reflux (LPR/GERD) can cause throat burning or irritation, it usually does not cause a runny nose or nasal congestion.
Possible Causes:
Allergic rhinitis: Common with seasonal changes, dust/pollen exposure.
Viral infection: Often starts with a runny nose and mild fever or headache.
Early sinusitis: May cause pressure or heaviness in the head.
LPR (acid reflux): Might cause throat discomfort or burning but usually without a runny nose.
Next Steps
1. Steam inhalation 2–3 times daily to reduce congestion.
2. Saline nasal spray to clear nasal passages.
3. Antihistamine (e.g., Levocetirizine 5 mg at bedtime) – if allergic cause suspected.
4. Paracetamol for headache or general discomfort.
5. Stay hydrated, avoid cold drinks and spicy food.
6. Avoid lying down immediately after meals – helps in case of reflux.
7. See an ENT specialist if symptoms last more than 5 days or worsen.
