Missed period but pregnancy test is neg

Asked for Female, 28 Years

I had my last period 6 weeks back. I have missed my period this month but the home pregnancy test that i took showed negative. I had a few period like symptoms like sore breasts and cramps in lower abdomen but no bleeding. Could you please suggest what is the issue here and what should be my next steps.
