Misinterpreting common kindness
What is it called when a person misinterprets common kindness as gestures of closer friendship than what it is? Kids are notorious for this. Tommy gives johnny his apple for lunch. Johnny thinks tommy is his best friend because he got an apple. Tommy thinks nothing of it because he gives his apple to anyone because he doesnt like apples. No one has ever given johnny an apple before.

It is difficult to generalise a particular situation and label it till the time we do not know the entire situation. A gesture of kindness could be interpreted as any thing, it could be common act of kindness or could be a step towards taking the relationship to bext level. but what matters is the context, situation, people involved and relationship between the two ppl.
