Can I give Mentat tablets to my son 12 years old to improve his memory and concentration? Are there any side effects? Are there more effective alternatives?

These tablets are basically meant for older patients to prevent or treat Alzheimer's disease. Although it is claimed to be tested and having no side effects but quite a few adults have complained of headache after taking it for even one day. In any case it should be used after proper assessment of the condition by a qualified doctor and only for therapeutic purpose. It is not advisable to use it for children as a 'brain tonic'. It also claims to have some 'sedative' effect to 'calm' the brain. If your child is having any issues related to memory and concentration then it could be due to behavioural, life style, nutritional, emotional, psychosomatic problem(s). Sometimes, and I say this with due respect for all parents, even a normal child is unduly pushed and pressurized by the parents due to their own anxieties and fear of the cutthroat competitive culture of society we live in.
Next Steps
If you feel there is a problem then consult a qualified doctor or child counselor in detail. Homeopathy can help as it is a holistic form of treatment and takes in account all the physiological and mental factors also. Homeopathy has wonderful medicines that can also bring about a positive change in personality of a child or person an enhance the mental faculties in a natural way. A qualified experienced homeopathic physician is intrinsically a good counselor and capable of giving useful advice according to the specific issues related to your child.
Health Tips
Tips: 1) Concentrate more on his balanced diet and natural supplements. 2) Ensure your child gets proper sleep and rest. Minimum 8 hours sleep is essential for a growing child. 3) Avoid like television, video games, chatting on mobile. 4) Ensure he does not get sucked into a sedentary lifestyle. Get involved, take him out for regular exercise in a park. I hope my response to your query will help you and your child in a positive way.
