Thank you for reaching out with your concern. It’s good that you’re aware and cautious about the effects of medications—your mental and physical well-being both matter deeply. While these medications can be very effective when used correctly and monitored by a psychiatrist, they can also bring side effects that vary from person to person. 1. Talk to Your Psychiatrist First • Medication needs vary based on your exact diagnosis (which isn’t listed). • If you feel unusual emotional, behavioral, or physical changes, discuss them immediately. • Never stop or adjust medication without professional supervision—it can worsen symptoms. 2. Consult a Psychologist Too • Medication helps manage chemical imbalances, but therapy helps address root causes, behavior patterns, and emotional healing. • A psychologist can: • Track side effects you’re experiencing • Help you manage anxiety or mood changes • Teach you coping skills tailored to your situation 3. Monitor and Record • Maintain a daily journal of how you’re feeling (physically and emotionally) • Share this with your psychiatrist and psychologist—it helps them personalize your care.

Hi... Psychiatric medications are prescribed only when it is absolutely necessary to control the symptoms that are inhibiting a persons daily life functioning. They do have some side effect, but the positive effects are greater than the side effects, that's how they qualify as medications. To take or not to take a medication depends on case to case and a Psychiatrist consultation is a must to make that distinction. Take a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the one you received. If you feel that your condition is not that severe and you can handle yourself without medications, I would suggest you to seek psychotherapy. In some cases a combination of medications and psychotherapy works best.
Next Steps
