No contrast is needed for MRI spine. It may be needed, if done for tumors/ destructive lesions of spine. Why not leave it for doctors to decide?

Lumbar spine MRI if done only to see compression of nerve by a prolapsed disc doesn't need any kind of dye. In case of a tumor or infection of spine, a dye examination is usually suggested.
