Low AFI at 33 weeks
Hi, I m now 33+5 days pregnant. When I took AFI scan last week exactly 7 day's before it was 12 and Doppler is normal. But today when I took scan again the AFI range dropped to 8 suddenly so my doctor suggested lungs maturity steroid injection and Hermin infusion. Why there is sudden drop in AFI level within a week? This will decrease again in following weeks? Can I continue my pregnancy till 38 weeks? What precautions to be taken? As of now baby movements are good and I m counting twice daily Please help me to rule out what was the issue. I m scared. Thank you.

Hi amniotic fluid index varies from time to time if it is less than we need to give the necessary medicines to make the fluid increase in size 34 weeks is critical as the baby's head has to fix and if the fluid is not adequate the baby can retain in breech position so you doctor have advised to take the medicines necessary for increasing the amniotic fluid and it is vital to continue the same. steroid injection is given for the lung maturity of a baby and it is very safe and it helps you alot. since because the water level is gone down right now it doesn't mean it will be always down it can increase after medications and you can push the baby to term and deliver. Target of delivery is just 37 completed weeks
