Look ,lipid are not required to be treated.."patients risk for heart disease " needs to be treated in wholesome. And doctors do lipid test to calculate risk for heart disease in wholesome. Lipids are just a part of calculating the risk. Any person walks in and says my cholesterol is 220, that doesnt mean we have to start medicine for it immediately. NEVER. We have to calculate his/her cardiac risk There are several online risk scores to calculate cardiac risk, mkst common of them is FRAMINGHAM RISK SCORE. which includes AGE,SEX,SMOKING,DIABETES,BLOOD PRESSURE,HDL LEVELS,TOTAL CHOLESTEROL. if your calculated risk is >5%, then only you need medicine. Any person with cholesterol 100 can have high risk and may require medicine ,on the other hand a person with cholesterol 250 may not require any medicine due to low risk. I hope i made myself clear !
