Recurrences happen if you continue passing hard stools
Doing lat. Internal sphincterotomy is safe, and onl 1 to 3 % pt may have a temporary loss of grip lasting 1-3 months

Lateral internal Sphincterotomy is a well established procedure. If done properly it is very effective and recurrence is very low. Cutting lowermost part of the internal Sphincter will not cause any loss of grip over stool
