Jock itch is a fungal infection. Some times the fungi are resistant to regular antifungals and require higher antifungals. Most of the antifungal creams contain a combination of steroid with antifungals. Steroids can make the infection spread. It is added because it gives instant relief from itching but has many side effects. Visit a dermatologist near you, he/she will start you on higher level antifungal creams with some antifungal tablets. The infection will start clearing in 2 weeks. Sometimes it takes several months to completely clear completely, so go for follow up visits every month for 2 to 3 months. To prevent recurrence you can use antifungal powders in the area after bath. Also changing the undergarments frequently and sun drying them properly will help to destroy any remaining fungal spores. You could also iron your undergarments before wearing them. Warm regards. Dr. Rajdeep Mysore. Chirag Hospital Bangalore
