Earlier i had consulted a doctor in January dur to prolonged menses and was given medications. They said I had PCOS. After that my periods were very regular but again in June I missed them. My last date was 22 june. Again after consultation I was given medications after which I got periods on 16 th August(my pregnancy tests were always negative, even thyroid report was normal).I was asked to do USG once which showed normal and the cyst had resolved. But Again this month i missed my periods and test was negative. Please help. Thank you

Dear Ma'am, Thank you for your query regarding an irregular menstrual cycle. It is a known fact that with hormonal medication the cycle is regularised, however ovulation doesn't take place. Ovulation is a prerequisite for conception in a cycle. Chance of conception in a menstrual cycle is 15-20 percent. I would suggest stopping all hormonal medication, maintaining a menstrual diary, doing a day 21 progesterone ( to test ovulation) and a serum prolactin to determine cause of irregular cycles and starting folic acid supplements. If you don't conceive for 1 year of unprotected intercourse, would I suggest further testing. Please discuss your options with your treating Gynaecologist and let me know if any further queries arise. Regards, Aditi
