Hi, thanks for posting your query. I’d suggest that instead of looking for answers externally just ask your child if this is a field that they are interested in.. This profession isn’t for people who are looking for a job that pays them a monthly Salary and Keeps them safe. This is for people who are really passionate about it and feel a strong calling towards this. Honestly, it’s not great to be listening to the sob stories of so many people every day. It actually impacts the therapist mental health at times and thats the reason a lot of therapists have a therapist. Just ask your child the following questions - Do they like listening to people? Do they feel called out to help people at large? Do they believe in the cause of mental health? If they feel aligned, the rest is not so important.
Next Steps
I can help your child understand his or her interests and help him or her make a choice. Love and healing ❤️‍

1. A Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in your chosen specialization is the minimum requirement. 2. Bachelor's can be done in any college. Master's depends on the chosen field. Top ones would be AIIMS, NIMHANS and other top universities owing to the level of exposure provided by them. 3. The field of psychology is not stuck to one topic. And it's not only medical related. There's school psychology, HR and Organization psychology, Research to name a few. Hence, there is a plethora of jobs to explore. The more important requisite would be how good are your people skills. 4. There is never a typical day. Each day is interesting and exciting. 5. I'm a psycho-oncologist, which basically puts cancer, counselling and psychotherapy in a single sentence. My personal reason is family deaths due to cancer. There is basically no one to counsel or even talk to a person diagnosed with cancer in this fast paced world. It is my thinking that in addition to the medical aspect, the psychological aspect should also be considered. 6. I empathize. Never sympathize. 7. It is a good thing that we have an opportunity to be more out there.

Hi... Please seek Career Counselling for your daughter. She needs it more than you trying to make an efficient choice for her. Psychology in India is still in its growing stage and different professionals are experiencing a very different kind of work environments, compensation, and challenges. You won't be able to assess if it is wise for your daughter to opt for it as a profession, as you don't know what it needs to be effective as a Psychologist. Psychologists in India are working in various fields, including but not limited to defence, sports, academics, research, educational institutions, government agencies, corporates/MNC's, etc. What matters is to find out if your daughter has a basic potential, motivation and commitment to become a good professional in this area of work or she is more inclined towards something else.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychologist. Career Guidance & Counselling is required.
