Insulin or C Peptide Test
My father was recently asked to go for C-Peptide FASTING test to diagnose Type 1/2 Diabetes. But on the lab's website, both insulin and C- Peptide FASTING tests are available. Can we go directly for the Insulin FASTING test as C-Peptide test is an indirect marker/test for insulin only ? How both the tests differ with each other?

Ur father's age who must be more than 35yrs. If he has diabetes it will either be T2DM or LADA (T1DM like illness). C peptide a precursor of insulin is measured to assess beta cell function which can be lower even in T2DM for deciding if insulin therapy needs to be initiated. Endogenous insulin has a very short half life and is not useful for this. It is tested in cases of insulin resistance.
