Hello dear doctor, I am a student of class 11 (PCB ). I like psychology very much so I was thinking to choose it as a career option. Please please please answer a few questions so that I can decide whether it is good or not: 1.How many years did it took to be a clinical psychologist? 2. How much do you earn monthly? 3. Is pschology difficult? 4. Do you enjoy or find it interesting to deal with patients or perform psychotherapy? I would really be grateful if you help me, I tried to find out it in Google but I thought I can get more information by talking directly to our honorable psychologists. Have a great day sir /madam!!!

Hello. Glad to hear you want to pursue Psychology. Mental health requires more awareness and is a growing field since the need for it is building. To answer your questions: 1. After Std X, you need to study Psychology in Class 11,12, followed by a graduate degree of 3 years (BA/BSc) with a full major (6 subjects) in Psychology. Thereafter, you will need to do a 2 year Post Graduation (MA/MSc) in Psychology with a specialisation in Clinical Psychology, which will qualify you to be Psychologist. To be a registered Clinical Psychologist, you will then need to do a 2 year MPhil from a recognised institute. So total education of 10+2+3+2+2 for a Clinical Psychologist. 2. Starting salary for a Psychologist is around Rs. 20,000 per month on average, but tends to vary depending on industry and location. 3 & 4. Psychology is an interesting subject and requires a lot of reading. It was not difficult to study, but requires hard work. Work as a Psychologist is very interesting and every client you see is different.
Next Steps
I would suggest you try to do an “observership” at a place of your interest, depending on where you think you would like to work in the future.
Health Tips
Working in a hospital setting or with patients with mental illnesses can get intense and draining. You will need to train yourself well enough so that it does not affect you personally.

Yes, psychology is a good subject. Qualification is different from practice.. It's come out of practice.. It is not a lucrative job/profession, but a very noble profession.. It does a little longer time to gain experience and skill as a psychotherapist..
