I have recently diagnosed with autoimmune hypothyroiditis but no weight gain
My question is does hypothyroiditis always cause weight gain?

Not necessarily. It causes weight gain when it is severe due to fluid retention, which is not more than 5-10 percent of the total body weight. Anything beyond that is usually due to obesity.
