a paste may slow down the decay process but canr but can definitely control new cavities to develop

Awareness of decayed teeth is a good start to prevent further damage of your Dental hygiene. The decayed teeth (caries) which is 4-5 (in your case) needs to be evaluated for the extent of infection and treated accordingly to prevent further damage. The caries prevention toothpaste may help in some cases but for a long term benefit would be very subjective.
